BODY IMAGE/EATING CONCERNS
It is almost impossible to live in this looks-focused society and not have some body image concerns. From internalizing messages about what we’re “supposed to” look like, to chronic dieting, to body shaming ourselves or others; many people are experiencing symptoms of body image concerns without even knowing it. This can lead to low self-esteem and self-hatred, difficulties with intimacy, and disordered eating.
Center Focused Therapy clinicians use principles from Health at Every Size (HAES), Intuitive Eating, the body positivity movement, and respect for body size diversity to help you feel more at peace and at home in your body.
Treatment may include telling your body’s unique story, processing how society, media, family and peers may have contributed to how you feel, exploring experiences of fatphobia and weight stigma, and relearning how to connect with your body. Therapy can help you understand the deeper underlying causes of body dissatisfaction, and then work towards building a new relationship with yourself.
